Michigan Completes Sweep of Mavericks

Michigan forward T.J. Hensick scored two goals and added an assist to lead the Wolverines to a 4-3 victory over Nebraska-Omaha in front of a record crowd 10,415 fans at the Qwest Center Saturday night.
Nebraska-Omaha took a 3-1 lead with 16:55 remaining in the second period after Bill Bagron scored his third goal of the season. Michigan went on to score the next three goals of the game and outshot UNO 24-11 from that point on.
The Mavericks opened up a 2-0 lead in the first period on goals by Dan Knapp and Alex Nikiforuk. Knapp let a rocket go from just inside the blueline on UNO's first power play of the game to put Nebraska-Omaha up 1-0 at the 4:26 mark. The Mavs struck again nearly four minutes later when Nikiforuk put on a nifty move in front of the net for his eighth goal of the season.
Michigan scored its first goal of the game on the power play from Matt Hunwick at the 2:18 mark. After UNO reestablished its two-goal lead on Bagron's goal, Hensick scored back-to-back goals at 5:23 of the second period and 10:41 of the third period to tie the game at 3-3.
UNO's Chris Holt and Michigan's Al Montoya came up with some outstanding third period saves but UM's David Moss scored the game-winner when he found a hole in the Maverick defense and slipped a wrist shot past Holt with 2:11 remaining in the contest.
Nebraska-Omaha was outshot 36-19 in the game and was 1-for-4 on the power play. Michigan tallied two power play goals on the night and finished with six man-advantage goals in the two games.
The Mavericks (15-12-3, 11-10-3 CCHA) will travel to Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan next weekend to take on Lake Superior State.
