Bulldogs Race Past Mavs, 72-49

Junior forward Lindsey Dietz scored 36 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead No. 23 Minnesota Duluth to a 72-49 North Central Conference victory over the Mavericks Saturday night in front of 1,300 fans at Lee & Helene Sapp Fieldhouse.
Dietz scored 10 points in less than five minutes to open the game, sending the Bulldogs into a 19-5 lead. She scored 23 points in the first half to lead UMD to a 41-22 advantage at the break.
UNO scrambled back from a 20-point deficit with a 10-2 run in the opening minutes of the second half to trail 48-36 with 13 minutes to play, but could get no closer, despite shooting 55.6 percent the second half.
Senior forward Lindsey Petersen led the Mavericks with 11 points and JJ Smith added nine.
Dietz connected on 13 of 21 shots for the game and was 11 for 12 from the free throw line. Stephanie Reiter added 12 points. UMD moved to 18-6 on the season and 7-3 in the NCC.
The loss, the fourth straight for the Mavericks, dropped them to 14-11 on the year and 4-6 in the NCC. UNO will finish regular season play next week at Minnesota Duluth on Thursday and at Minnesota State, Mankato Saturday.
