Third Period Comeback Lifts Mavs to 3-3 Tie

SAULT STE. MARIE, MICH.--Bryan Marshall's goal with nine seconds left in regulation lifted Nebraska-Omaha to a 3-3 tie with Lake Superior State in front of 1,993 fans at Taffy Abel Arena Saturday night.
UNO, trailing 3-1 heading into the third period, put the pressure on the Lakers in the final 20 minutes with 17 shots. Brent Kisio made it a one-goal game with 9:52 left in the third when he scored his first goal of the season. The Mavericks skated with an extra attacker for the final minute of play when Marshall scored the game-tying goal.
LSSU's Alex Dunn gave the Lakers a 1-0 lead at 7:22 of the opening period when he got behind the Maverick defense and went top shelf on UNO goaltender Chris Holt.
The Mavericks tied the score at 1-1 early in the second stanza when Brandon Scero scored his eighth goal of the year, knocking home a rebound past goaltender Jeff Jakaitis. Lake Superior State responded with a goal just two minutes later from B.J. Pelkey at the 4:51 mark and extended its lead to 3-1 late in the second on a power play tally by Nathan Ward.
Holt, who finished the game with 26 saves, had three stops in overtime. The Mavericks outshot LSSU 37 to 29 in the contest. UNO was 0-for-4 on the power play while LSSU was 1-for-3.
The tie kept UNO alone in fourth-place with 28 points, one point ahead of Bowling Green, a 5-2 winner over Western Michigan Saturday. UNO's record is now 16-12-4 overall and 12-10-4 in the CCHA.
UNO returns home next weekend for its final CCHA series of the season against Alaska Fairbanks. The tie with LSSU extended UNO's cluster play unbeaten streak to five games and improved its record to 4-5-1 in cluster play.
