Tough Road Tests Await Mavericks

The Mavericks face two road assignments this week to close the regular season. UNO will play at Minnesota Duluth Thursday night at 6 and then will play at Minnesota State, Mankato Saturday afternoon at 2.

The games will be broadcast on KOZN, 1620 AM, with David Gustafson calling the play-by-play.
For the Record
The Mavericks are 14-11 on the season and are 4-6 in the North Central Conference. Minnesota Duluth is 18-6 and 7-3 and Minnesota State, Mankato, which plays North Dakota Thursday, enters the week at 10-14 and 4-6.
Coaching Staff
Head Coach Patty Patton Shearer is in her first season as the head coach at UNO and has a 14-11 mark. Overall in five seasons in college she is 74-60. Patton Shearer took over last spring after compiling a 60-49 record over four seasons at Fort Lewis College. She is a 1990 graduate of Rocky Mountain College. Her assistants, all in their first seasons at UNO as well, are Jason Flores, Brad Schick and Maurtice Ivy.
Last Week
Minnesota Duluth, behind Lindsey Dietz' 38 points and 13 rebounds, raced past the Mavericks 72-49 Saturday night at Sapp Fieldhouse. The Bulldogs jumped out front 14-2 and led at the half, 41-22. UNO cut the lead down to 48-36 with under 13 minutes to play, but then was held to just one field goal over a six-minute span. Lindsey Petersen led the Mavs with 11 points and JJ Smith added nine.
Looking Ahead
The Mavs will play a first-round game in the North Central Conference's Wells Fargo Finals on Tuesday, Mar. 1. The opponent and site won't be determined until after play is finished on Saturday night. If the Mavericks finish above fifth, they will host a game that date; if not, they will travel. A win would send them to the semifinals, played at the site of the first-place team, while a loss would end their season.
