Mavs Split Doubleheader to Open 2005 Season

St. Joseph, Mo.--The UNO baseball team split a twin bill with Missouri Western Wednesday to open the 2005 season.
Lyle Lafountain's RBI single in the fifth inning of the first game scored Kevin Whitman for the go-ahead run. Chad Leon, Josh Shirk and Marc Centofante each had two hits apiece as the Mavs won, 4-3.
In the second game, the Mavericks trailed 6-0 after the first inning and lost to the Griffons, 11-6.
Both teams will resume a 3-game series Thursday afternoon with a single 9-inning game starting at 2:00 p.m.
