
UNO Tops Missouri Western, 10-6

ST. JOSEPH, MO.--Josh Shirk's third inning grand slam ignited the Nebraska-Omaha baseball team to a 10-6 win over Missouri Western on Thursday.
The Maverick hitters went down in order for the first two innings then exploded for nine runs on nine hits in the third and fourth innings to take a 9-3 lead.
Nebraska-Omaha belted out 14 hits on the day. Chad Leon was 2-for-5 with 2 RBI and two runs scored. Troy Cloyd, Min Sung, David Bodnar and Matt Meyer also had two hits apiece.
UNO starter Brent Jackson picked up the victory for UNO, scattering four hits over four innings. Kevin Whitman also had an impressive outing, striking out four and allowing only one hit in three innings of work. Brandon Kelley came on in the ninth to pick up his first save of the season.
The Mavericks (2-1) will continue its road swing Friday when they take part in the Central Missouri State Early Bird Tournament. The Mavs are set to face CMSU on Friday at 4:00 p.m.
