Mavericks Fall to Bulldogs, 67-50

DULUTH, MINN. -- Minnesota Duluth held off the Mavericks' second half comeback Thursday night to post a 67-50 North Central Conference victory. UNO, now 14-12 overall, fell to 4-7 in the NCC before Saturday afternoon's regular season finale at Minnesota State, Mankato.
Junior forward JJ Smith led the Mavericks with 18 points and seven rebounds and senior Lindsey Petersen added 10 points. Petersen now has 977 career points.
The Bulldogs pulled away in the first half, aided by an 11-2 run, to take a 25-11 lead with 6:32 to play. Smith hit a pair of field goals and Petersen a three-pointer to bring UNO back and Smith's layup in the closing seconds narrowed the gap to 29-23 at the half.
The Bulldogs, led by Lindsey Dietz' 24 points, pulled away to an 11-point lead after the break before Petersen started another Mav rally with a three-pointer, her 133rd of her career.
Sophomore guard Karen Thies added a three-pointer to bring UNO within 42-37 with 10:40 to play, but that was as close as the Mavs could get. UNO was held to just a single field goal over the next seven minutes and UMD built the lead into double digits while shooting 61.9 percent the second half.
