Marshall Hat Trick Leads Mavs Past Nanooks

Omaha, Neb--Freshman forward Bryan Marshall tallied his first career hat trick to lead the University of Nebraska-Omaha to a 7-2 CCHA victory over the University of Alaska-Fairbanks.
UNO rebounded from a loss to the Nanooks Friday night to improve to 17-13-4 overall and 13-11-4 in the CCHA. UAF is now 12-15-3 on the season and 11-14-3 in the CCHA.
The two teams traded goals in the first period before UNO took the lead for good in the second period. Bill Thomas scored on a shorthanded breakaway and Marshall netted the first of his goals to give UNO a 4-2 lead.
Kyle Greentree added a power play goal to bring UAF within one, but the Mavericks would pull away in the final frame.
UNO exploded for four third period goals. One each for Dan Hacker and Alex Nikiforuk, and two goals from Marshall.
The Mavericks finished 2-7 on the power play and outshot UAF 40-26 for the game. Maverick goalie Chris Holt stopped 24 shots to earn his 17th win of the year.
UNO returns to action Thursday night in a 7:05 game against Minnesota State-Mankato at the Qwest Center Omaha.
