UNO Back Home for NCC Matchups

The Mavericks open a three-game, two-week homestand Friday against St. Cloud State at Lee & Helene Sapp Fieldhouse at 6 p.m., then will host Minnesota State, Mankato Saturday at 6 in important North Central Conference matchups.

The games will be broadcast on KOZN, 1620 AM, with David Gustafson calling the play-by-play.

Coaching Staff
Head Coach Patty Patton Shearer is in her first season as the head coach at UNO and has a 14-8 mark. Overall in five seasons in college she is 74-57. Patton Shearer took over last spring after compiling a 60-49 record over four seasons at Fort Lewis College. She is a 1990 graduate of Rocky Mountain College. Her assistants, all in their first seasons at UNO as well, are Jason Flores, Brad Schick and Maurtice Ivy.
Last Week
The Mavericks split a pair of North Central Conference games last week. UNO downed South Dakota 61-48 on Thusday at Sapp Fieldhouse as JJ Smith scored 23 points and Carlye Jones added 16 rebounds. UNO held the Coyotes to just 22.6 percent shooting the first half and to 29.5 for the game and led all the way. Saturday in Sioux Falls, S.D., the Mavs fell behind by 10 at the half and by as many as 17 in the second before mounting a n impressive comeback. UNO, with Karen Thies scoring 20 of her game-high 27 points the second half, put on a 23-6 run and scored 11 straight points to tie the game at 62 with 3:55 left to play. The Vikings put the game away from the free throw line, hitting eight straight in the final 2:12. Smith collected 16 points and added five rebounds.
UNO at Sapp Fieldhouse
The Sapp Fieldhouse floor has been good to the Mavs thus far. UNO is 11-1, with the only loss a 67-65 setback at the hands of Northwest Missouri State Dec. 11. Since then, UNO has won seven straight at home.
Looking Ahead
The Mavs will host Minnesota Duluth in the final regular season home game on Feb. 19 at Sapp Fieldhouse in their only game next week. UNO will then conclude regular season play with road games at Minnesota Duluth Feb. 24 and Minnesota State, Mankato Feb. 26.
