UNO Headed to The Joe

Omaha, Neb--First team all-CCHA forward Scott Parse scored 5:24 into overtime, lifting the University of Nebraska-Omaha to a 4-3 victory over Lake Superior State. With the victory, the Mavericks swept the best of three series and earned a berth in the CCHA Super 6 at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit.
Parse deflected in a pass from Mike Eickman, sending the 6,780 fans at Qwest Center Omaha into a frenzy.
The game was a see-saw battle between the two teams.
Lake Superior State took an early 2-0 lead, when Colin Nicholson and Jeff Rainville scored less than 30 seconds apart in the first period.
The Mavericks gradually chipped away at the Laker lead. Brandon Scero scored on the power play with 1:56 left in the first. Rob Chappell then tied the game at two early in the second period.
Scero added another power play goal in the third period, giving the Mavericks a 3-2 lead.
But the Lakers would storm right back. Jon Booras batted the puck out of mid-air, knotting the game at three and eventually sending the game into overtime.
UNO pelted Laker goalie Jeff Jakaitis with 43 shots on the game. UNO improved to 19-15-4 on the season while Lake Superior State ended their season with a 9-22-7 record.
The Mavericks will play Thursday in Detroit, with the time and opponent to be announced.
