Mavs Split Doubleheader With Griffons

OMAHA -- Troy Cloyd's grand slam in the sixth inning sparked UNO to a 5-4 win in the first game of a twin bill with Missouri Western State on Sunday at the CU Sports Complex.
Jeff Hansen, who finished the game 2-for-2, led off the sixth inning with a double. Min Sung was then hit by a pitch and Josh Shirk loaded the bases with a single before Cloyd belted his second homer of the year.
Mav starter Brent Jackson went 5 2/3 innings and allowed two runs on five hits. Weston Cooper came on in relief of Jackson before giving way to Brandon Kelley, who picked up his third save of the season by recording the final out in the seventh.
In the second game, MWSC pitchers Jesse Spellmeyer and Darin Bullock kept the UNO offense in check, allowing only one run on six hits to lead the Griffons to a 2-1 win.
UNO, now 11-4 on the season, has won nine of its last 11 games.
