Mavericks Sweep UNK in Home Opener

Pitching and clutch offensive production vaulted Nebraska-Omaha to two wins (1-0, 6-2) over in-state foe Nebraska-Kearney Wednesday afternoon at Claussen-Westgate Field.
In the first game, UNO loaded the bases on three walks in the bottom of the fifth by UNK pitcher Breanna Bowers. With one out, UNO sophomore Kelsey Warning batted the ball to Nebraska-Kearney second baseman Amanda Hitt who tried to tag a passing Alison Jergenson and throw to first attempting a double play. Jergenson was able to avoid the tag, with Kellyn Kramolisch scoring from third on the play.
The lone run was good enough for Nebraska-Omaha pitcher Cheris Kuster(5-5) who held Kearney to three hits while striking out seven.
UNO was able to draw nine free passes in the contest, while only logging one hit.

In the second contest, a five-run third vaulted UNO to an early lead. Nicole Vos led UNO going 2-3 at the plate with two RBIs and one run scored.
Maverick starting pitcher Jenny Pritchard(6-0) scattered nine hits as she picked up her sixth victory of the season.

UNO is now 14-7 and will travel to St. Joseph, Mo. Friday and Saturday for the Missouri Western Regional Crossover.
