Mavs Split with Coyotes

The Mavericks opened North Central Conference play with a split of a doubleheader with South Dakota Tuesday. UNO won the first game, 1-0 in 10 innings before the Coyotes claimed the nightcap, 3-2.
In the first contest, Lauren McArthur started the UNO rally by ripping a single in the bottom of the 10th. McArthur was lifted for pinch runner Alison Jergenson who scored on a throwing error from right field after Shilo Jorgensen's fly ball.
UNO was held to three hits, while striking out nine times.
Cheris Kuster went the distance for the Mavs giving up three hits and collecting six strikeouts to even her record at 6-6.
In the nightcap, Nebraska-Omaha struck first, scoring in the second on an RBI single by Cayte Billman, scoring pinch-runner Jergenson.
South Dakota tied the game at one in the fourth. Kerri Starcevich started the inning with a double and was driven in by Alicia Yowell. UNO answered in the fifth with Katie Novotny lacing a triple to left-center. Sophomore Kelsey Warning scored Novotny with a single with one out.
South Dakota posted two runs in the top of the sixth when pinch hitter Erin Corner drove in two Coyotes to go up 3-2.
In the bottom of the seventh, Shilo Jorgensen had everyone on their feet when she sent a ball deep to left field only to have it hit the top of the fence for a double.
Maverick pitcher, Jenny Pritchard (7-1) suffered her first loss of the season, giving up seven hits and three runs.
UNO (16-9) will be back in action Friday when it hosts Wayne State in a doubleheader at 3 p.m.
