
Mavs Sweep Upper Iowa in Twinbill

FAYETTE, IOWA -- Troy Cloyd and Nick Russell each pitched complete games as Nebraska-Omaha swept Upper Iowa University in a doubleheader, 7-2 and 3-1 on Thursday.
UNO took advantage of four UIU errors in the first game and Troy Cloyd hurled his fifth complete game of the season, scattering five hits for his fourth victory of the season. The Mavs led 3-2 after six innings but struck for four insurance runs in the top half of the seventh. Josh Shirk and Min Sung combined to drive in three runs in the inning with RBI singles. Shirk finished the game going 2-for-4 with a run and two RBIs.
In the second game, Nick Russell struck out nine and allowed one run on four hits to improve to 3-2. The Mavs grabbed a 2-0 lead in the fifth inning behind a double by Marc Centofante and a triple by Jeff Hansen. UNO scored another run in the seventh inning when Chad Leon singled, advanced two bases on a throwing error and later scored on a wild pitch.
The Mavs (19-9) are scheduled to play at Wayne State next Wednesday.
