Bradenton, FL -- The UNO baseball team defeated Assumption College 6-3 on Saturday to open play at the Florida Jamboree Tournament.
UNO pitchers combined for 16 strikeouts. Troy Cloyd (2-0) picked up the victory for the Mavs, scattering four hits over seven innings while fanning 11. Weston Cooper and James Adams combined for the other five strikeouts.
Marc Centofante's two-run single in the sixth inning broke a 3-3 tie and gave UNO the lead for good.
David Bodnar and Matt Meyer each had two hits a piece.
The Mavs will face Holy Cross in a nine-inning game on Sunday.
