Mavs Split Doubleheader with Wayne State

Josh Lundin struck out seven over six innings and Chad Leon and Min Sung combined to drive in five runs to lead the Mavericks to a 6-3 win over No. 28 Wayne State in the first game of a doubleheader Wednesday at the Ballpark at Boys Town.
Leon gave UNO a 3-0 lead with a three-run triple in the second inning. Sung made the score 5-0 with a two-run single in the third inning and later scored on a sacrifice fly.
Lundin gave up just four hits to improve to 2-1 on the season.
In the second game, the Wildcats capitalized on five Maverick errors to down UNO, 5-3 in eight innings.
Scott Bidroski put the Wildcats up 2-0 with a two-run single in the first inning. WSC pushed another run across the plate in the fifth for a 3-0 lead.
The Mavs battled back with three runs of their own in the bottom of the fifth inning. Marc Centofante led off the inning with a walk and scored on a double by Jeff Hansen. Hansen made the score 3-2 after he stole third base and scored on a throwing error by the catcher. Min Sung tied the game at 3-3 with his fifth homer of the year on a solo shot to left field.
Wayne State scored two unearned runs in the top of the eighth inning and held off UNO in their final at-bat.
UNO (23-11) will resume North Central Conference play this weekend when they travel to Minnesota-Duluth for a four-game series.
