UNO Splits with No. 15 Missouri Western

Behind Cheris Kuster's seven-hitter, UNO defeated No. 15 Missouri Western 2-1 in game one of the doubleheader Wednesday. Missouri Western took game two 4-2.
In the first match, Missouri Western scored its lone run in the first inning on back to back doubles. Nebraska-Omaha answered in the second as Brianna Cataudella put UNO on the board with a one-out single scoring Leslie Svoboda. Later in the inning, Kellyn Kramolisch was issued a bases-loaded free pass walking in Erin Bluml.
Svoboda and Bluml each collected two hits and scored a run for UNO.
Kuster went the distance for the Mavs allowing seven hits while striking out six to move her record to 10-8.
In the doubleheader finale, UNO took a 1-0 lead in the third on Kelsey Warning's RBI single to center scoring Maverick leadoff hitter Katie Novotny.
Missouri Western answered in the top of the fourth stringing together three hits for two runs chasing UNO starting pitcher Taren Tuley.
Bluml led off the Maverick fourth doubling and scored on Mandi Daigh's two-out RBI single to center field to tie the game at two.
Missouri Western scored two unearned runs in the top of the seventh and held UNO in their final at bat.
Jenny Pritchard (10-4) took the loss, pitching 3 1/3 innings.
UNO(25-14-1) will travel to Maryville, Missouri this weekend for the Northwest Missouri State Tournament. Saturday the Mavs will face a duo of ranked teams starting with No. 7 Emporia State at 12:30, followed by No. 15 Missouri Western at 4:30.
