Apr 17, 2005 | Softball
MARYVILLE, MO.--Shilo Jorgensen's game-tying two-out RBI single in the seventh, propelled UNO to extra-innings as they defeated Missouri-Rolla 6-2 in eight innings. UNO also picked up a 3-0 win over Truman State and a 2-0 victory against Central Missouri to finish up the Northwest Missouri State Tournament Sunday.
Against Central Missouri, Sara Sortino's two-run RBI single in the third was enough run support for UNO starting pitcher Cayte Billman. Billman(5-2) who was 2-for-3 at the plate, allowed three hits collecting five strikeouts.
In the second game versus Truman State, leading off the top of the seventh, Sara Sortino recorded her first career home run, icing the UNO win. Sortino went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a RBI. Katie Novotny and Kelsey Warning each doubled.
Taren Tuley (2-0) earned her second win of the season, lasting six innings striking out six while holding the Bulldogs to three hits. Cheris Kuster came on in relief picking up her third save of the year.
In the tournament finale against Missouri-Rolla, UNO came back from a 2-1 deficit in the top of the seventh to take the game to extra frames. In the Maverick 8th, two straight hits by Sortino and Warning gave UNO a 4-2 edge. Later in the inning, in her first at bat of the season, Jenny Pritchard sent a 3-2 pitch up the middle bringing home Warning and Sortino.
Billman, Kuster and Pritchard all saw time in the circle combining for eight K's. Pritchard (11-5) earned her 11th victory of the season pitching two innings and allowing one hit.
UNO (28-16-1) will have a few days off from competition and will travel to Grand Forks, N.D Friday where they will face North Dakota. The Mavs have a 32-0 record against the Sioux.
