Mavs Cruise by Vikings in Doubleheader

SIOUX FALLS, SD --The Nebraska-Omaha baseball team reached the 30-win plateau on Friday by sweeping a North Central Conference doubleheader from Augustana College, winning 6-2 and 14-3.
UNO trailed 1-0 in the opener before scoring four runs in the top of the third inning. Brian Frew's two out two-run blast gave the Mavs a 2-1 lead. Jeff Hansen extended the lead to 4-1 four batters later with a two-run single. The Mavs then scratched acrossed insurance runs in the fourth and sixth innings.
Troy Cloyd (7-2) scattered six hits and struck out eight batters for his eighth complete game of the year.
The Mavs broke open the second game with 11 runs in the fourth inning. UNO sent 16 hitters to the plate in the inning and took advantage of six walks while adding five singles, a double and a home run. Chad Leon and Troy Cloyd each drove in three runs apiece.
Nick Russell improved to 6-2 on the year after striking out 10 in five innings of work.
Josh Shirk had a solid day at the plate for the Mavs, going 5-for-7 with five runs scored.
UNO (30-12 overall, 9-1 NCC) will host Augustana in a doubleheader on Sunday at the Ballpark at Boys Town starting at 1 p.m.
