Mavs Drop Twinbill to Augustana

OMAHA, NE -- The UNO baseball team stranded a total of 19 baserunners in Sunday's doubleheader against Augustana College and were defeated 12-6 and 3-2 at the Ballpark at Boys Town.
AC built a 7-2 lead in the opener after three innings and were led by Jeremy Schultz's 5-for-5 performance at the plate. Gary Walz, Mike Loberg and Sam Everson each drove in two runs a piece.
UNO Troy Cloyd was 3-for-4 with three doubles in the first game. The Vikings took advantage of seven walks and the Mavs left nine runners on base.
In the second tilt, UNO starter Tim Huber (1-2) struck out 12 batters in six innings of work and allowed two unearned runs in the sixth inning to get tabbed with the loss.
Josh Shirk's RBI single in the fourth inning gave UNO a 1-0 lead. Augustana went ahead 2-1 on a two-run single by Adam Waldorf and scratched another run across the plate in the seventh on an RBI single by Gary Walz.
The Mavs loaded the bases in the seventh inning. Chad Leon drew a walk, Brian Frew singled and Min Sung was hit by a pitch. Leon scored on a wild pitch but Augustana closed the door with a double play to end the game.
UNO (30-14, 9-3 NCC) are tied for first place in the North Central Conference with Minnesota State, Mankato. UNO is scheduled to play at Upper Iowa on Thursday before heading to North Dakota next weekend for a four-game set with the Fighting Sioux.
