Mavs Rally to Sweep Upper Iowa

DES MOINES, IOWA --The UNO baseball team improved to 32-14 with a doubleheader sweep over Upper Iowa University, winning 8-1 and 4-2 in 10 innings at Principal Park on Thursday.
Upper Iowa carried a 2-0 lead into the seventh inning of the night cap before the Mavs tied the game with a two-run single by Jeff Hansen. The Mavs then scored the go ahead runs in the 10th inning on Matt Meyer's two-run single.
Brandon Kelley (1-2) picked up the win in relief for UNO, throwing 3 2/3 innings of no-hit ball.
In the first game, Brent Jackson allowed four hits over six innings and did not allow an earned run as he improved to 5-3 on the season. Chad Leon belted a three-run homer in the sixth inning and Josh Shirk finished with three hits to extend his hit streak to six games.
UNO is ranked fourth in the latest NCAA II Regional rankings.
