Mavericks Split Final Day of Tourney

Taren Tuley and Cheris Kuster combined to no-hit Wayne State, 9-0, Sunday to help the Mavericks earn a split on the final day of the UNO Tournament at Dill Field. Earlier in the day, No. 23 Washburn defeated the Mavericks, 5-2.
Against Washburn, UNO took an early lead in the bottom of the first on a two-run blast by Kelsey Warning. Washburn chipped away at the UNO lead scoring a run in both the second and the third to tie the game at two. Washburn took the lead in the fifth on two extra base hits.
Washburn outhit UNO 8-6, including six extra base hits. Jenny Pritchard took the loss dropping her record to 8-3.
In the tournament finale, Tuley (1-0) picked up her first win of the season, pitching three innings striking out six. Kuster recorded her second save of the season, pitching the final two innings of the game shortened by the mercy rule.
Maverick freshman Brianna Cataudella laced a three-run shot in the bottom of the fifth to end the game due to a mercy rule. Sara Sortino, Leslie Svoboda, Cayte Billman, Missy Kelly and Cataudella all recorded two hits as the Mavs logged 12 hits.
UNO(20-12) will be back into action Wednesday as they travel to Sioux Falls, S.D. for a doubleheader with Augustana. Nebraska-Omaha will be back home Friday April 8 with Minnesota-Duluth.
