Mavs Take Hornets to Extra Innings, Fall 3-2

EMPORIA, Kan.--Lauren McArthur's sixth inning two-run home run was not enough as Nebraska-Omaha fell to No. 1 seed Emporia State 3-2 in 10 innings.
In the eighth, UNO had runners at first and second when McArthur singled to centerfield. Second base runner Alison Jergenson attempted to score, but was met at the plate on a throw from Morgan Viola. Catcher Courtney Stevens was able to hold on as the two collided at the plate.
In the bottom of the 10th, ESU scored the game-winner on a one-out single by Viola.
UNO recorded six hits, three by first baseman Lauren McArthur including her fifth home run of the season.
Jenny Pritchard went the distance pitching 9 1/3 innings striking out six and walking four dropping her record to 12-7. ESU's Melissa Stevens improves to 26-4.
This season UNO is 0-5 against ESU and have been outscored 18-5.
UNO (35-22-1) will face No. 6 seed Winona State Friday at 12:30 p.m. in the losers bracket in the double elimination tournament. Winona fell 6-5 to Missouri Western in the second game of the tournament Thursday. The Mavs have yet to face Winona State this season, but last time the two met, UNO defeated WSU 2-1.
