Cloyd Powers UNO Past Wayne State in Regional

WARRENSBURG, MO -- Senior Troy Cloyd belted two home runs and drove in seven runs to lead the Nebraska-Omaha baseball team to a 19-3 victory over Wayne State in game 5 of the NCAA II Central Regional on Friday night.
The victory was UNO's 42nd of the season and moved the Mavericks into the championship bracket against Central Missouri State (54-7) on Saturday. UNO will take on the top-ranked team in the country at 1 p.m. with an if necessary game following one hour after the completion of the 1 p.m. game.
The winner of the NCAA II Central Regional will advance to the NCAA II College World Series in Montgomery, AL, May 28-June 4.
UNO blew the game wide open with an eight-run second inning. That was all the run support Mav starter Nick Russell (8-5) needed as he went eight innings and punched out 10 Wildcat batters. Cody Butt came on in relief for the ninth inning.
The Mavericks also struck for three runs in the fourth, seventh and eighth innings while pounding out a total of 20 hits in the contest.
Every starter in the UNO lineup recorded at least one hit as UNO improved to 2-1 in the double-elimination tournament.
