Mavs Claim NCC Title

VERMILLION, S.D.--After a three year drought, UNO (34-21-1) captured the NCC championship defeating St. Cloud State 5-2. Coming out of the losers bracket, the Huskies forced a second game in the championship matchup after defeating top-seeded UNO 6-4 in the first contest.
In the first championship game, Lauren McArthur's two-run home run in the fourth led UNO to a three run attack in the inning. St. Cloud State answered with three runs in its half of the fourth to tie the score at three. The Huskies posted three more in the sixth, and held UNO to one run in the seventh.
Katie Novotny and Erin Bluml each recorded two hits for UNO.
Relief pitcher, Cayte Billman was tagged with the loss, giving up two runs in 2/3 inning pitched.
In the championship finale, UNO pounded out 15 hits including three by junior third baseman Shilo Jorgensen. Katie Novotny, Alison Jergenson, Nicole Vos, and Leslie Svoboda had two hits apiece.
Up 2-1 in the fifth, UNO jumped to a 6-1 lead after stringing together six hits for four runs in the inning.
Jenny Pritchard threw a five hitter, striking out nine to raise her record to 12-6.
