OMAHA, Neb. -- Senior Ashley Freeman and sophomore Carlie Christensen combined for 27 kills to lead the University of Nebraska at Omaha to a 30-23, 30-22, 30-28 victory over Hillsdale College as the Mavericks improved to 2-0 in the 2005 Omaha Executive Inn & Suites Classic Friday night before 422 fans at the Sapp Fieldhouse.
Freeman registered 14 kills and two blocks while hitting .312 on the evening. Christensen tallied 13 kills while hitting a match-high .476. She also collected four blocks in the match.
Senior libero Chelsea Miller controlled the match defensively with a match-high 25 digs and five service aces. The Mavericks held a 55-42 advantage in digs and a 10-2 margin in service aces.
Senior setter Christie Johnson dished out 38 assists, while registering nine digs and three kills.
The Mavericks, who opened the tournament and the 2005 season earlier Friday with a 30-24, 30-28, 30-23 win over Regis, will return to action Saturday when they host Drury at 1 p.m. and conclude the tournament with a 6 p.m. match against Southern Illinois-Edwardsville.
