Mavs Blank Midwestern State for First Win

EDMOND, Okla. - Junior Amber Richardson scored in the 12th minute Saturday and UNO limited Midwestern State to just one shot in a 1-0 win in the second game of the Carl's Jr. Classic, hosted by Central Oklahoma. The win put the No. 4 Mavericks at 1-1-0 on the season while MSU fell to 0-1-0.
Richardson took a crossing pass from junior Beth McGill at the 11:46 mark and put it in the left-hand corner of the net for the game's only goal. McGill, an All-American last year with 51 points, already has three this year off a goal and an assist. Richardson joined sophomore Brandie Beale with four shots to lead the team and Beale put all four of hers on goal.
The Mavericks out shot the Lady Indians 16-1 and took nine corner kicks to their one. Senior goalkeeper Amy Price earned her 27th career solo shutout as she faced just one shot, making a save in the second half.
The Mavericks will take a week off before playing in a tournament at 10th-ranked Truman. UNO will face Central Missouri State September 10 and host-school TSU September 11.
