No. 8 Mavs Set to Host UMD Sunday

After jumping ahead three spots in the national poll to No. 8, Nebraska-Omaha will host Minnesota Duluth Sunday at 1 p.m. in a North Central Conference match at the Soccer Field at Ak-Sar-Ben. The Mavericks are 4-1-0 and 1-0-0 in the conference after shutting out Augustana 6-0 last week. UMD is 6-2-0 (1-1-0) after splitting a pair of games in its NCC opening weekend.
The Mavs moved back into the top ten in this week's National Soccer Coaches Association of America national poll and maintained to top spot in the Central Region poll. The UNO offense came alive in the shutout over AC as Brandie Beale netted her third career hat trick and finished with eight points. Beale and defender Meghan Pile swept the NCC weekly honors. UNO is now averaging 7.60 points per game, third best in the NCC. The Bulldogs are ranked fifth in the region and lead the conference with 7.88 points per game.
Though this is just the second NCC matchup between these two teams, UNO and UMD have met once in each of the last four years. The Mavericks hold a 3-1-0 record in the series and have not given up a goal to the Bulldogs since the series premier in 2001.
Celebrate Youth Soccer Month this Sunday at Ak-Sar-Ben
UNO will join millions of Americans Sunday in celebration of Youth Soccer Month during the game against Minnesota Duluth. US Youth Soccer rally towels and red, white and blue wristbands will be given away at the gate. Youth Soccer Month is dedicated to increasing awareness of the benefits of playing Youth Soccer in America. UNO is proud to support this effort and further the goals of Youth Soccer Month:
1. Emphasize soccer as the number one youth participation sport in America and a leading contributor to the healthy lifestyle of millions of American families.
2. Bring kids and families of all ages and all abilities together for fun, friendship and fitness.
3. Highlight the various programs available to children interested in participating in soccer, including inner city, special needs, recreational and elite soccer programs.
