Mavs 8 Shots Back After 1 Round

MARSHALL, Minn. -- Senior Amanda Stock shot a first-round 79 Saturday, but the Mavericks face an eight-shot deficit going into Sunday's final round of the 36-hole Southwest Minnesota State Invitational.
Stock is tied for fourth, two shots behind first-round leader Rachel Schmidt of Upper Iowa on the par-72, 5,978-yard Marshall Country Club course. The 11-team field will tee off in a shotgun start at 9 Sunday morning.
The Mavericks are in fifth place with a 332 total, eight strokes behind host Southwest Minnesota State at 324. Truman State is at 326, Winona State at 329 and South Dakota at 330.
The other Maverick scores included Mandy Houtz, tied for 11th at 81; Lindsay Newton, 85; Allyson Yung 87, and Kate O'Dea, 90. Carly Froehlich, competing as an individual, shot an 83.
