Mavs Drop Final Match at Colorado Premier to West

DENVER, Colo. -- Despite recording 10 more kills and two more digs, the University of Nebraska at Omaha dropped a 30-26, 30-27, 30-22 decision to West Texas A&M in its final match at the Colorado Premier Challenge Saturday evening at the Auraria Events Center on the Metro State campus. Earlier in the day, the Mavericks, swept Regis 30-25, 30-26, 30-21. The Mavericks finished the tournament with a 1-3 record.
The Mavericks were plagued with 14 service errors and 30 hitting errors while hitting just .130 in the match.
Nebraska-Omaha was led by senior outside hitter Ashley Freeman, who recorded 13 kills. Freeman, however, committed nine attack errors and hit just .111 for the match. Junior outside hitter Christina Reicks registered her first career double-double with 11 kills and 13 digs.
Senior libero Chelsea Miller tallied a match-high 17 digs. Senior setter Christie Johnson collected 42 assist, nine digs, and one service ace in the loss.
The Mavericks (4-4) will travel to Aberdeen, S.D., next Friday and Saturday, Sept. 9-10, to participate in the North Central Region Crossover on the campus of Northern State University.
