Mavs Back Home to Face 18-0 North Dakota

The Mavericks open the home portion of their North Central Conference season on Thursday when they host unbeaten North Dakota at 6 p.m. at Lee & Helene Sapp Fieldhouse. The game marks the start of a five-game homestand for the Mavericks.

UNO is 12-5 on the season overall and is 0-2 in the North Central Conference. North Dakota, the No. 2-ranked team last week, is 18-0, matching its best-ever start to a season.
Coaching Staff
Head Coach Patty Patton Shearer is beginning her second season as the head coach at UNO and has a 26-19 mark. Overall in five seasons in college she is 86-68 She compiled a 60-49 record over four seasons at Fort Lewis College before becoming UNO's head coach in the summer of 2004. She is a 1990 graduate of Rocky Mountain College. Her assistants, all in their second seasons at UNO as well, are Jason Flores, Brad Schick and Maurtice Ivy.
The Opponent
North Dakota is 18-0 on the season before Thursday's rematch with the Mavericks, which is the first of a two-game road trip for the Fighting Sioux. UND will go on to play at South Dakota on Saturday night. The Fighting Sioux, in coach Gene Roebuck's 19th season, have eight letterwinners and four starters from last year's 25-6 team that won the NCC regular season and tournament titles before losing in the second round of the NCAA II tournament.

North Dakota leads, 41-9. UNO was 1-1 last season with the Fighting Sioux, winning in overtime in Omaha, 77-72, before losing in Grand Forks.

The Mavericks have a week between games, returning to the court to host South Dakota on Thursday, Jan. 19 in an NCC game and Upper Iowa on Saturday, Jan. 21. UNO will continue its five-game homestand by hosting St. Cloud State on Jan. 26 and Grand Canyon Jan. 28.
