Mavs Fall to No. 2 North Dakota

No. 2 ranked North Dakota took advantage of UNO's cold shooting and cruised to a 72-47 North Central Conference victory Thursday night at Lee & Helene Sapp Fieldhouse, extending its winning streak to 19 games.
The Fighting Sioux, 19-0 and 2-0, shot 55.2 percent the first half while the Mavericks connected just six times for 22.2 percent to fall behind 41-17 by halftime.
UNO, which dropped to 12-6 overall and 0-3 in the NCC, improved to 35.3 percent the second half and played the Sioux on nearly even terms in suffering its fourth-straight loss.
Down by as many as 37 the second half, the Mavericks closed with a rush, outscoring the Fighting Sioux 16-4 over the final four minutes.
Junior guard Karen Thies led the Mavericks with 10 points and a trio of players chipped in with 9 each: Ashley Freerksen, JJ Smith and Cayla Hargrove.
North Dakota was led by Kristi Boese's 19 points and six rebounds, hitting all seven of her shots from the field, including four from behind the arc, as well as her only free throw attempt. Ashley Langen added 12 points.
UNO is off until returning to NCC action next Thursday at home against South Dakota.
