Mavs Blank Ohio State, 2-0

COLUMBUS, Ohio--UNO freshman goaltender Jerad Kaufmann recorded his first career shutout as the Mavericks defeated No. 20 Ohio State 2-0 on Friday night at Value City Arena.
Nebraska-Omaha (12-10-1, 6-8-1 CCHA) won its first CCHA game since December 4 and snapped a three-game winless streak. The Mavericks' win in Columbus was the first in seven games, dating back to November 3, 2001. UNO and Ohio State (11-9-3, 7-7-1 CCHA) will close out the series Saturday night with a 6:05 p.m. faceoff.
The Mavs' Tomas Klempa had a goal and an assist in the winning effort. Klempa broke a scoreless tie in the second period on the power play when he knocked home a rebound off a Mick Lawrence shot at the 11:44 mark. The goal was Klempa's eigth goal of the season and second in three games. UNO took the 1-0 lead into the second intermission after killing off an OSU 5-on-3 situation for 1:29 after Jason Krischuk and Bill Bagron both drew penalties.
UNO extended its lead to 2-0 at 2:41 of the final period when Scott Parse scored on a breakaway goal on a pass from Klempa after Bill Thomas caused a turnover at neutral ice.
Kaufmann had 28 saves on the night. The shutout was the first blanking on the road since December 7, 2002 and 14th in school history.
Both teams finished with 28 shots in the contest. UNO was 1-for-6 on the power play and killed off all six Buckeye power plays.
