Mavs Tie Ohio State

COLUMBUS, Ohio--UNO rallied from two goals down Saturday night and tied No. 20 Ohio State 2-2 in front of 5,811 fans at Value City Arena.
Ohio State jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period on a goal by John Dingle at 6:09 and a power play tally by Tom Fritsche at 9:17. Nebraska-Omaha cut the deficit in half at the 4:55 mark of the period when Bryan Marshall unleashed a slapshot from the point while the Mavericks were on the power play.
The Mavericks tied the score at 2-2 at 5:17 of the second stanza when Mike Lefley passed the puck from right half board to a wide open Mick Lawrence in the crease for his eighth goal of the year.
Both teams had several chances to take the lead in the third period and overtime but UNO goaltender Jerad Kaufmann (30 saves) and OSU goaltender David Caruso (36 saves) each had some key saves.
"I was proud of our team on how we scrapped, fought and battled our way back into the game after falling behind," UNO head coach Mike Kemp said. "Jerad Kaufmann came up big again when he had to after struggling in the first period."
UNO and OSU both finished 1-for-7 on the power play. The Mavericks outshot OSU 38-32 in the contest.
Nebraska-Omaha returns home next weekend to host Michigan State in a two-game set.
