Kinsey, Mavs Stop Coyotes, 74-60

Toni Kinsey's season-high 21 points Thursday night helped the Mavericks end a four-game losing skid with a 74-60 North Central Conference victory over South Dakota at Lee & Helene Sapp Fieldhouse.
The win, in front of 700 fans and a regional television audience, boosted UNO to 13-6 on the season and 1-3 in the NCC, while the Coyotes fell to 12-6 and 0-3.
Kinsey nailed four of six shots from behind the arc the first half and scored 16 points to send UNO to a 32-29 halftime lead with each team trading scoring runs. After UNO took a 22-18 lead with 8:39 left on a Kinsey three, the Coyotes scored nine straight to grab a 27-22 advantage with 3:18 left.
Kinsey then started and ended a 7-0 run by the Mavs and after USD tied at 29, she capped the half with a three at the buzzer.
South Dakota briefly got back out front at the start of the second half on a jumper by Bridget Yoergerm, 33-32, but The Mavericks responded by scoring the next eight points, capped by a three-point play by JJ Smith for a 41-33 lead with 15:51 left.
The Mavs never trailed again, although USD got back within two on a three-point shot by Ashley Bjorkman with 14 minutes left. UNO sped past the Coyotes with a 19-6 run over the next six minutes to take their biggest lead, 60-45, with eight minutes remaining.
Ashley Freerksen added 15 points and seven rebounds, Lacey Geitzenhauer 13 and Smith 10 to go with 8 rebounds for the Mavericks, who improved their home record to 8-2. Kinsey, a junior guard from Florence, Colo., finished the game with 5-for-9 shooting from behind the arc, hitting all but one of UNO's three-point shots. Her previous high this season was a 14-point effort in November against Columbus State.
Vanessa Yanez and Ashley Robinette each scored 14 points for the Coyotes, while Brittany Bessert added 12. Erica Schroeder, despite being held scoreless, led both teams with 11 rebounds.
