
Mavericks Cruise Past Upper Iowa

Ashley Freerksen and Lacey Geitzenhauer each scored 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds as the Mavericks built a big early lead, then cruised to an 82-52 non-conference win over Upper Iowa at Lee & Helene Sapp Fieldhouse Saturday night.
UNO, now 14-6 overall, scored the first 11 points in the game and then held the Peacocks (5-13) to just 19.2 percent shooting the first half to take a 44-17 lead.
The Mavericks shot identical 53.1 percent figures from the field each half in the game to equal last year's win total.
Senior forward JJ Smith added 13 points, boosting her to 1,151 for her career, good for 11th on the career chart, just 15 points behind No. 10 Amy Loth (1993-97).
Christa Hammel led Upper Iowa with 13 points and six rebounds.
UNO will resume North Central Conference action when it hosts St. Cloud State Thursday at 6 p.m. at Sapp Fieldhouse.
