Mavs Spread Wealth in 87-56 Win

Six players scored in double figures and the Mavericks held Grand Canyon to 32.1 per cent shooting in breezing to an 87-56 non-conference win at Lee & Helene Sapp Fieldhouse Saturday night.
UNO moved to 15-7 on the season, while the Antelopes fell to 4-16.
The Mavericks broke an early 6-6 tie with a 23-7 first half run. UNO held Grand Canyon to just 26.9 percent shooting the first half and went into the break with a 43-24 lead as JJ Smith scored all of her 16 points.
Grand Canyon cut the margin to as few as 11 twice, the last time at the 16:56 mark when UNO led 45-34, but UNO then went on a 14-4 run, capped by a Karen Thies three-pointer to snuff the rally. The Mavericks held Grand Canyon to just one field goal over an eight-minute stretch, expanding their lead to 82-48 with 5:11 to play.
Lacey Geitzenhauer also scored 16 points to lead UNO, while Thies, TOni Kinsey and Ashley Freerksen all had 11 and Cayla Hargrove 10. Freerksen also had eight assists and seven rebounds.
Ashley Prince led the Antelopes with 13 poiints and Sherlyn Hatch and Stacy Haddow each scored 12.
Smith's 16-point performance boosted her to 1,186 for her career, good for No. 10 on the UNO career scoring chart.
The Mavericks will next play on Thursday night in a North Central Conference match-up at South Dakota at 6.
