Minnesota State, Mankato Rallies to Beat UNO

MANKATO, Minn.--Minnesota State, Mankato rallied for five unanswered goals in the third period to defeat Nebraska-Omaha 5-2 in non-conference action at the Midwest Wireless Civic Center on Tuesday night.
The loss snapped UNO's two-game win streak and dropped the Mavs to 6-2 this season in non-conference play.
UNO (11-9-0) built a 2-0 lead in the second period on goals from freshmen Juha Uotila and Dan Charleston. Uotila recorded his first career goal on the power play at 4:20 of the period when he went coast to coast after taking a pass from goaltender Jerad Kaufmann and went backhand. Charleston gave the Mavs a two-goal lead when he scored an even strength goal from the slot at the 7:54 mark.
Kevin Huck got MSU on the board in the final period when he scored on a rebound with 14 seconds remaining on the power play to make the score 2-1. The host Mavericks then scored four goals in a span of 5:27 to take the lead for good. Ryan Carter recorded a pair of goals while David Backes and Jeff Marler also added markers.
The victory for MSU extended its unbeaten streak against UNO to nine games as they improved to 7-11-4.
Nebraska-Omaha will return to conference play this weekend when then host Notre Dame in a two-game series at the Qwest center starting Friday.
