Thommes Leads UNO to Win Over South Dakota

OMAHA -- Freshman middle blocker Ellen Thommes recorded a career-high 16 kills and four service aces as five Mavericks registered double-figure kill totals to lead the 20th-ranked UNO Mavericks to a 3-1 (30-24, 30-16, 28-30, 30-25) victory over South Dakota Tuesday night before 649 fans at the Sapp Fieldhouse in North Central Conference volleyball action.
UNO won its fourth-straight match, improving to 15-5 overall and 3-3 in the NCC. South Dakota fell to 4-17 and 0-7.
Thommes, who also added five blocks, hit .423 in the match. Junior middle blocker Carlie Christensen collected 15 kills and six blocks. Senior outside hitter Christina Reicks recorded her 14th double-double of the year with 13 kills and 16 digs.
Junior rightside hitter Nicole McLeod and freshman outside hitter Kelli Goeser each tallied 10 kills in the victory.
Junior setter Katie Agnew recorded a double-double with 50 assists and 11 digs, while directing the Maverick offense to a .208 hitting percentage. South Dakota hit just .058 on the night, committing 35 attack errors.
The Mavericks will entertain fifth-ranked and NCC leader Minnesota Duluth on Friday, Oct. 13, beginning at 7 p.m. at the Sapp Fieldhouse.
