Colorado College is Mavs' First Foe

The Mavericks hope the scoring touch they displayed in Tuesday's exhibition win will continue as they open regular season play in the Nye Frontier Classic in Anchorage, Alaska, this weekend. UNO will meet Colorado College on Friday, Oct. 13 at 8:07 p.m. CDT and host Alaska-Anchorage on Saturday, Oct. 14 at 10:07 p.m.
The Mavericks defeated Manitoba, 8-0, Tuesday night in an exhibition game. Colorado College is 2-0, with wins over Air Force (2-1) and Alabama-Huntsville (8-1). Alaska-Anchorage, 0-0, will play Merrimack Friday before facing UNO Saturday night.
Media Coverage
The games will be broadcast on KKAR, 1290 AM, with the pre-game show beginning 30 minutes before face-off. Greg Harrington will call the action, with Terry Leahy providing color commentary.

UNO finished the 2005-06 season at 20-15-6 overall and was tied for fourth place in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association.
The Coaches
Nebraska-Omaha's Mike Kemp is in his 10th season as the Maverick head coach. Kemp is a 1975 graduate of Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minn. The Duluth, Minn., native is 144-171-37 at UNO overall and has a 77-90-29 mark in the CCHA. Scott Owens is in his eighth season as the head coach at Colorado College. He will bring a 179-92-20 mark into the game against UNO. The Sea Wolves are coached by Dave Shyiak, now in his second year. UAA was 6-27-3 last season.

This will be the first meeting with both schools.
Last Year
UNO used a strong second half to springboard into a tie for fourth place in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association. The Mavericks then went on to earn their first-ever trip to the NCAA tournament, losing in the first round to Boston University. The Mavericks finished the season 20-15-6.
Mavericks Win Exhibition Game
Adam Bartholomay scored a pair of goals and three UNO goaltenders blanked Manitoba for the third straight time, 8-0, Tuesday night in an exhibition game in front of 3, 271 at Qwest Center Omaha. UNO outshot the Bisons, 33-21, and got goals from seven different players, including four freshmen. Also scoring for UNO were freshmen Eddie Del Grosso, Dan Swanson, Chris Wilson and Nick Fanto. Nenad Gajic and Dan Knapp scored the others. UNO had three power play goals in the game.
Coming Up
The Mavericks return home Oct. 20-21 to host the Mutual of Omaha Maverick Stampede. UNO will meet Niagara in the first round at 7:05 p.m. Friday night, following the 4:05 p.m. game between Northern Michigan and UMass-Lowell. The third-place game will be at 4:05 Saturday afternoon and the championship game at 7:05 p.m. UNO has won the past two championships in the tournament, which is in hits seventh year. Those games start off a six-game UNO homestand. The Mavericks will host Western Michigan Oct. 27-28 and Nov. 3-4 in CCHA contests.
