UNO Tops Augustana, Rebounds For Weekend Split

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- Five Mavericks collected double-figure kill totals as the 20th-ranked University of Nebraska at Omaha volleyball team rebounded from a Friday night loss to fifth-ranked Minnesota Duluth with a 3-1 (30-19, 28-30, 30-22, 30-25) victory at Augustana Saturday night in North Central Conference action at the Elmen Center.
With the win, UNO improved to 16-6 overall and 4-4 in the NCC. Augustana fell to 11-11 and 5-2.
Senior outside hitter Christina Reicks led UNO with her ninth-straight double-double, collecting 17 kills and 15 digs. Junior middle blocker Carlie Christensen added 15 kills and two blocks.
Junior rightside hitter Nicole McLeod was good for 14 kills and four blocks. Freshman middle blocker Ellen Thommes notched 12 kills and three blocks.
Freshman Sara Kampschnieder, in her first career start, added a career-high 11 kills.
Junior setter Katie Agnew led the balanced Maverick attack, directing UNO to a .309 attack percentage, while collecting a double-double with 59 assists and 10 digs, to go along with four kills.
Defensively, the Mavericks got a career-high 30 digs from senior Stacie Wemhoff. Wemhoff also added three service aces in the victory.
The Mavericks committed just one hitting error in the first game, hitting .548. Christensen was perfect in game one, pounding six kills with no errors in six attempts. McLeod added five kills of her own in game one.
Nebraska-Omaha cooled off in the second game, hitting just .200, with Christensen adding four kills. The Mavericks fought back from a 28-24 deficit to tie the game at 28 with a kill by Christensen, a pair of service aces by Wemhoff, and a kill by Thommes. However, the Vikings thwarted the Maverick comeback with a kill by Katie Newgard and an attack error by Kampschnieder.
Reicks led the way in the third game with six kills as the Mavericks hit .300 as a team. Kampschnieder and McLeod each added four kills as UNO never trailed in the game.
Reicks once again led the UNO attack in the fourth game, collecting six kills while hitting .385. Agnew added three kills in four attempts with no errors.
The Mavericks will return home for an NCC match against North Dakota next Saturday, Oct. 21, beginning at 6 p.m. at the Sapp Fieldhouse.
