Thommes Leads UNO to Sweep Over South Dakota

VERMILLION,S.D. -- Freshman middle blocker Ellen Thommes pounded 13 kills on .550 hitting, while adding four blocks to lead the 19th-ranked UNO Mavericks to a 3-0 (30-28, 30-15, 30-18) win in North Central Conference volleyball action Saturday afternoon at the DakotaDome.
The Mavericks, who have now won eight out of their last nine matches, improved to 19-6 overall and 6-4 in the NCC. South Dakota fell to 5-21 and 0-11.
Another freshman, Sara Kampschnieder was also in double figures with 10 kills on .304 hitting.
Junior setter Katie Agnew directed the UNO offense to a .292 hitting percentage, dishing out 37 assists, while adding three kills and a match-high two service aces. The Coyotes hit just .075 in the match.
Senior Stacie Wemhoff anchored the Maverick defense, collecting 15 digs as UNO held a 47 to 43 advantage in that category.
UNO will return home next Tuesday, Oct. 31, when they host Augustana in an NCC match beginning at 7 p.m. at the Sapp Fieldhouse.
