Dupont, Mavericks Blank Broncos, 6-0

OMAHA, Neb. - UNO scored four power play goals and a shorthanded score Saturday night and freshman goaltender Jeremie Dupont notched his first collegiate shutout as the Mavericks skated past Western Michigan 6-0 at Qwest Center Omaha.
The Mavericks moved to 3-1-2 on the year and 2-0 in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association, while the Broncos slipped to 2-4-0 overall and in the league.
Mick Lawrence scored a pair of goals and added an assist, Scott Parse had a goal and two assists and Juha Uotila dished out three assists to lead the Mavericks.
Brandon Scero put the Mavericks on top on a power play on passes from Adam Bartholomay and Lawrence just 4:02 into the game.
Lawrence scored his first goal of the game and the season when Uotila got control of the puck in the Maverick zone just inside the blue line after UNO had killed a brief 4-on-3 power play. Lawrence and WMU's Matt Clackson came out of the penalty box and Lawrence skated down the middle of the ice, catching the Broncos in a 2-on-1 break. Uotila fed the puck across the slot, who beat Bellissimo on the short side at 4:20.
Dan Charleston scored his first of the year when the Mavericks took advantage of a two-man advantage midway through the second period. Parse, on the left point, passed to Eddie Del Gross on the right, who then fed Charleston who was low in the right circle.
Lawrence's second goal came when he gained control of the puck in the Bronco zone and beat Bellissimo short side from 10 feet.
Parse scored his fourth of the year on a power play 43 seconds into the third period and Bryan Marshall his first on another power play at 8:39.
Dupont, the youngest Maverick at just 17 years old, made 24 saves in registering the quickest whitewash at the start of a career of any UNO player. This was just his third start and fourth appearance of the season.
UNO returns home next weekend, hosting CCHA rival Alaska on Friday and Saturday.
