No. 21 UNO Downs Minnesota State in Four Games

OMAHA, Neb. -- Three Mavericks recorded double-doubles as the 21st-ranked UNO Maverick volleyball avenged an earlier conference loss to Minnesota State, Mankato by defeating the visiting Mavericks 3-1 (30-15, 30-23, 30-32, 30-24) on Saturday night before 696 fans at the Sapp Fieldhouse.
With the win, UNO improved to 14-5 overall and 2-3 in the NCC. Minnesota State, who rallied to defeat UNO in five games on Sept. 16, fell to 13-7 and 3-3.
Senior Christina Reicks led UNO with her team-leading 13th double-double, registering a match-high 15 kills along with 11 digs and five blocks. Junior setter Katie Agnew dished out 48 assists while collecting a match-high 17 digs and three service aces. Junior middle blocker Carlie Christensen added 11 kills and a career-high 11 blocks in the victory.
UNO came out of the gate quickly, hitting a blistering .560 in the first game with 15 kills, one error, in 25 attempts. Junior rightside hitter Nicole McLeod hit .857 in the first frame with six kills, no errors, in seven attempts. Christensen had four kills on .800 hitting.
The Mavericks cooled off in the second game, hitting just .143. Paced by Reicks' five kills, UNO ended the game on a 17-11 scoring run to pull away from a tight 13-12 lead.
UNO battled back in the third game, trailing 26-17, the Mavericks went on a 12-3 scoring run to tie the game at 29. UNO saved four game points with a kill by Reicks, followed by a McLeod kill and two MSU errors. However, an attack error by McLeod and a service ace by MSU's Dana Ostertag allowed the visiting Mavericks to pull out the game, 32-30.
Agnew had two service aces as UNO got out to a quick 4-0 lead in the fourth game, only to see MSU battle back with five-straight points of their own. The game was tight with 11 ties until midway throught the game. With the score knotted at 16, Reicks and Christensen combined for six kills as UNO pulled away and ended the match with a 14-8 scoring blitz.
The Mavericks had a season-high 15 blocks in the match, compared to just four for MSU. UNO also outdug Minnesota State 76-66 and held a .227 to .060 advantage in attack percentage.
The Mavericks will next be in action on Tuesday night, Oct. 10, when they host South Dakota in a 7 p.m. NCC match.
