Michigan Overtakes UNO, 6-4

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan's Kevin Porter scored a hat trick, and linemate T.J. Hensick had three assists as the Wolverines twice overcame two-goal deficits and defeated UNO, 6-4, Friday night in Central Collegiate Hockey Association action at Yost Arena.
The Mavs broke out to a 2-0 lead on first period goals by sophomore forward Adam Bartholomay and senior forward Scott Parse. Bartholomay's power play goal was at 12:19 on a wrist shot from the right circle. Parse's even strength goal was on a wrist shot from the slot after the Maverick captain had to go back to the bench to get a new stick.
Michigan got on the board when Porter scored an even strength goal at 15:40 of the first period.
Senior forward Alex Nikiforuk restored the Mavs' two-goal lead on a power play marker at 4:14 of the second with an assist from Tomas Klempa and Eddie Del Grosso.
Porter again drew the Maize and Blue to within one with an even strength goal 9:00 into the second stanza. UM then tied the score when Andrew Cogliano burst by the UNO checkers and beat Maverick goalie Jerad Kaufmann.
In the third period, Michigan took the lead at the 5:36 mark on an even strength goal by Brian Lebler.
The Mavs would come back, however. Sophomore forward Dan Charleston would find the back of the net at even strength at 7:42 with a shot over the shoulder of UM goalie Billie Sauer.
But Porter would complete his hat trick with the game-winning goal on a wrist shot from the slot after being set up my linemates Hensick and David Rohlfs. Michigan closed out the scoring with a Jack Johnson even strength goal off an odd man rush with 1:24 left in the third.
The Mavericks will again look for their first regular season win at Yost when they hook up with the Wolverines at 6:35 p.m. CST Saturday.
