Mavericks open season in St. Cloud at Hoopster Cla

The University of Nebraska-Omaha men's team gets the regular season underway this weekend in the American Family Hoopster Classic, hosted by St. Cloud State.
The Mavericks begin play Friday night at 6, taking on Mary. Saturday they take on Rockhurst, again at 6 p.m.
UNO played two exhibition contests against in-state Division-I opponents. On Nov. 8 the Mavericks took on No. 19 Creighton. UNO trailed by just a point at halftime, but a seven-minute scoring drought in the second half doomed the Mavs, as the Bluejays took a 73-56 victory. Michael Jenkins was the leading scorer for UNO with 15 points.
The Mavericks then took on the Cornhuskers of Nebraska-Lincoln, falling again, 76-62. Freshman guard and Lincoln native Andrew Bridger had a breakout game, scoring a team-high 23 points, going 7-for-11 shooting, including 3-for-6 from 3-point range.
Junior wing Denny Johnston was the leading rebounder in each game, averaging 6.5 per game.
