Hot-Shooting Mavs Claim 85-60 Win

PUEBLO, Colo. -- Senior guard Karen Thies led four players in double figures with 22 points and the Mavericks shot 56 percent from the field Saturday in an 85-60 win over Colorado-Colorado Springs in the Al Kaly Shrine Classic. Thies was named the meet's most valuable player.
UNO, which improved to 2-0, raced to a 51-32 halftime lead against the 0-2 Mountain Lions, then used patient shot selection the second half, hitting 12 of 21 shots to cruise to the victory.
Ashley Freerksen added 17 points and Ellen Majewski and Alyssa Green, who was also named to the all-tournament team with Thies, each chipped in with 12. Lacey Geitzenhauer led UNO with six rebounds. The Mavs held a 31-24 edge on the boards.
Nancy Hoist led UC-Colorado Springs with 17 points and nine rebounds.
The Mavericks also hit 11 of 23 from behind the arc for 47.8 percent, and were 82.4 percent accurate from the free throw line
UNO's next action will come Friday night at 6 against Colorado Mines in the Howard Johnson Thanksgiving Classic at Sapp Fieldhouse.
