Mavericks Tie Alaska on Late Goal by Scero

OMAHA, Neb. -- Brandon Scero's second goal of the game, on a power play with 82 seconds to go in regulation pulled the Mavericks into a 5-5 Central Collegiate Hockey Association tie with Alaska in front of 5,007 at Qwest Center Omaha Friday night.
Dan Charleston also had a pair of goals for the Mavericks, who are now 3-1-3 overall and 2-0-1 in the CCHA before Saturday's second game of the series at 7:05. Kyle Greentree had the hat trick for Alaska, which is now 4-1-2 and 2-0-1.
Greentree's three first period goals, two of them on the power play, gave the Nanooks a 3-1 lead at the first intermission. Eddie Del Grosso's power play goal midway through the period briefly tied the game for UNO.
Scero scored his first goal of the night and sixth of the year at 3:38 of the second, but Alaska regained the two-goal advantage on Curtis Fraser's goal just 15 seconds later.
But UNO tied the game on Charleston's two goals. The first one came on a play that started at the UNO blueline when the Mavericks were shorthanded on passes from Nenad Gajic and Del Grosso at 9:02. His second came just 2:30 later on a power play.
Alaska then grabbed a 5-4 lead on a power play goal by Darcy Campbell. Scero's second goal came after Scott Parse sent the puck to Alex Nikiforuk who slid it across the front of the crease to Scero who slammed it past Wylie Rogers from the side of the net.
UNO held a 42-26 edge in shots on goal for the game and converted three of 12 power plays to Alaska's 3 of 8.
