Alaska Rallies, Edges Mavs 4-3

OMAHA, Neb. -- Alaska used two shorthanded goals to come from behind and then scored a power play goal by Tyler Eckford midway through the third period to claim a 4-3 Central Collegiate Hockey Association win over UNO Saturday night in front of 5,158 at Qwest Center Omaha.
The loss puts UNO at 3-2-3 overall and 2-1-1 in the league, while the Nanooks improved to 5-1-2 and 3-0-1.
The Mavericks outshot Alaska 14-3 the first period and took a 2-0 lead on Bryan Marshall's second goal of the year and first of the game and a power play marker by Dan Charleston.
The teams traded momentum swings midway through the second when Alaska had penalties by Aaron Lee at 9:40 and Lucas Burnett at 11:20.
The Nanooks tied the game on shorthanded goals just 52 seconds apart by Kyle Greentree and Braden Walls. But Marshall rifled a shot just under the crossbar to give the Mavericks the lead back, 3-2, 65 seconds later at 12:15.
That stood until Alaska's Curtis Fraser scored his sixth of the season at 19:11 of the period to tie the game at 3.
Penalties at 7:17 by Mick Lawrence and at 8:32 by Juha Uotila gave the Nanooks a 5-on-3 power play and Eckford converted passes from Greentree and Fraser to score his third of the year at 8:41.
Nanook goaltender Chad Johnson turned aside 12 Mavericks shots in the third period to preserve the win. He finished with 35 saves.
The Mavericks now go on the road for five straight games beginning with a weekend CCHA series Nov. 10-11 at Michigan.
