Mavs Test Wolverines in CCHA Road Set

Nebraska-Omaha will play its first Central Collegiate Hockey Association road series this weekend when the Mavericks visit Ann Arbor, Mich., to play the University of Michigan on Friday and Saturday. Faceoff at Yost Ice Arena each night is at 6:35 CST. The series starts off a stretch of five straight road games for UNO.
Media Coverage
The games will be broadcast on KKAR, 1290 AM, with the pre-game show beginning 30 minutes before face-off. Greg Harrington will call the action, with Terry Leahy providing color commentary.
The Records
UNO goes into the series with a 3-2-3 overall record and a 2-1-1 CCHA mark. Michigan is 5-3-0 overall and 2-2-0 in the league.
The Coaches
Nebraska-Omaha's Mike Kemp is in his 10th season as the Maverick head coach. Kemp is a 1975 graduate of Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minn. The Duluth, Minn., native is 147-173-40 at UNO overall and has a 79-91-30 mark in the CCHA. Kemp is 4-16-3 vs. Michigan. Red Berenson is in his 23rd season as the Wolverines' head coach and has a 590-281-63 record. He has won two national titles, nine CCHA regular season championships and seven league playoff titles. He is 16-4-3 vs. the Mavs.

Michigan is 16-4-3 in the all-time series and holds an 8-1-0 advantage in Ann Arbor.
Last Week
Brandon Scero's second goal of the night, with just 1:22 left in regulation Friday night helped the Mavericks forge a 5-5 tie with visiting Alaska. Dan Charleston also scored twice for UNO, once shorthanded and once on the power play. Eddie Del Gross had the other UNO goal on a first period pwoer play. The Nanooks came from two goals down to post a 4-3 win on Saturday night. UNO took a 2-0 lead in the opening period on goals by Bryan Marshall and Charleston, but the Nanooks tied on two shorthanded goals in 52 seconds. Marshall reclaimed the lead at 3-2, but Alaska tied the game in the final minute of the second period and won it with a power play goal at 8:41 of the third by Tyler Eckford. Michigan split with Michigan State last week, losing 7-4 in East Lansing before skating to a 6-2 home ice win the next night.
Last Year vs. Michigan
UNO lost 4-2 and 7-3 decisions last year in Ann Arbor in December, stopping a four-game winning streak. In Omaha, the Mavericks won 4-3 and skated to a 4-4 tiein a February series.
Coming Up
The Mavericks continue their stretch of road games when they visit CCHA leader Miami on Nov. 17-18 in Oxford, Ohio. The final game of the five-game road assignment will be a non-conference match-up with Minnesota State in Mankato on Nov. 21.
Mavs vs. Michigan
Senior Scott Parse has five goals and seven assists in 11 career games with the Wolverines...senior Alex Nikiforuk also has scored five career goals against Michigan, to go with three assists in 10 games...sophomore goaltender Jerad Kaufmann was 1-2-1 with a 4.05 goals against average last year vs. Michigan...UNO has lkost three straight games at Yost Ice Arena to Michigan. Mavericks Lose Gajic
Senior forward Nenad Gajic has decided to forgo the remainder of the hockey season in order to join the Colorado Mammoth of the National Lacrosse League. Gajic, from Burnaby, British Columbia, played two years at Michigan State before transferring to UNO in 2004. He redshirted in 2004-05 and played 13 games for the Mavericks last season, scoring one goal. This season, he has played in six games, scoring two goals and five assists for seven points. Gajic will remain in school at UNO to finish his degree in speech communication.
